Invité par le Centre Pompidou-Metz lors de sa construction en 2009 par le biais d’une commande photographique initiée par son directeur Laurent Le Bon, je me suis retrouvé parachuté à Metz sans aucune connaissance de la ville… j’y ai erré, comme à mon habitude ; j’y ai photographié aussi, bien sûr, la rue, la nature, le chantier et ses alentours… mais c’est cette « pièce » qui est aujourd’hui la plus emblématique pour moi ! Car « l’épicentre » de cette architecture n’était pas le bâtiment lui-même, ni tout le programme immobilier inventé autour, mais bien tous ceux qui participaient à cette « aventure humaine ». Ainsi j’ai commencé à photographier les ouvriers, les politiques, l’équipe « de préfiguration » du centre, les artistes, les agents de sécurité (…) ; bref tous ceux que je croisais… j’ai fini par les visiteurs en 2012.  420 visages, la Joconde et un chien …369 images qui, pour moi, ont scellé le destin d’un musée magnifique…

Invited by the Centre Pompidou-Metz during its construction in 2009, through a photographic commission initiated by its director Laurent Le Bon, I found myself parachuted into Metz with no knowledge of the city… I wandered around, as is my wont; I also photographed, of course, the street, nature, the building site and its surroundings… but it’s this « piece » that is the most emblematic for me today! For the « epicenter » of this architecture was not the building itself, nor the entire real estate program invented around it, but all those who took part in this « human adventure ». So I began photographing the workers, the politicians, the center’s « prefiguration » team, the artists, the security guards (…); in short, everyone I came across… I ended up photographing the visitors in 2012. 420 faces, the Mona Lisa and a dog … 369 images that, for me, sealed the fate of a magnificent museum…
