DISTANT NEIGHBORHOOD                Begun December 2001

In tribute to the work of manga artist Jiro Taniguchi, I gave this section of my work a general title.

It consists of works carried out in precise geographic locations that are either commissioned works or works done during residency.

In these works I applied the same methodology stemming from my studies such as In the State and Chimeras and I treat landscapes and shapes in the same way.

Because the landscape reflects the world such as it is understood by human beings; “simple” beauty means “wild”, political will, histories, economic contexts ( . . .), all of this contributes to who we are, for we evolve in these spaces and territories, and we live in the grip of these places and geographies.  Therefore, these landscapes are sometimes accompanied by faces that represent the “actors” from these lands, the beings who live there.
